Discover 19 painted walls created by prestigious comic strip authors. From its rocky promontory overlooking the Charente and Anguienne valleys, Angoulême offers the walker remarkable views. 1. After admiring the obelisk erected in homage to Asterix's father René GOSCINNY on the station forecourt, cross the avenue and head for the roundabout on the left. Turn right into rue Pierre Sémard and turn into rue des chais to admire the first painted wall of the route, "Le jardin extraordinaire" by Florence CESTAC. At the end of this street, go up the rue de la Grand Font on the right to 15 bis to discover "New York sur Charente" by Nicolas de CRÉCY. 2. Go up the adjacent rue du tunnel to wait for the boulevard de la République. Follow it on the left for 150 m to reach rue Guichard on the right. At the top, turn right into rue Saint Roch, where "Blake et Mortimer" by JUILLARD after E.P.JACOBS is located. At the end, turn left in front of the Post Office until you see the wall "Avec le temps" by François SCHUITEN. Continue along rue Poincaré (Off the route: go up boulevard de Bury on the right to see "Voyage au travers des images" by Philippe DRUILLET). 3. Retrace your steps to turn right into Place de Ségou. At the end of this street-square, on the left, you will find "Chassez le naturel" by François BOUCQ. Go down Boulevard Duroselle, continue along Rue de Broquisse then Rue Guimberteau. 4. At the roundabout, go up rue de Montmoreau to N° 258 to see "Cubitus" by DUPA. Cross at the next roundabout to take rue de Clérac à Sillac. After the tunnel, take the white road on the right and go to 109 bis rue de Montmoreau where you will see the fresco "Boule et Bill" by ROBA. 5. At the end of the street, go up the stairs and follow the rue Massicault to reach the top of the ramparts and the viewpoint over the valley and the Anguienne viaduct. Walk along the eastern rampart on the right - view of the church of Obézines below. Turn left into Rue Fanfrelin which leads to Rue Hergé, which you will find on the left-hand side of the road. You will see "Gaston et Prunelle" by FRANQUIN, Passage Marengo, and on the square, the bust of Hergé, Tintin's father, as well as "Baron Noir" by GOT and PÉTILLON at the top of a façade. "Natacha et P'tit bout d'chique" by François WALTHÉRY are at the end of the pedestrian street. Cross the gardens of the town hall which houses the tourist office. Continue along New York Square to the theatre, which you will walk around to see "Les coulisses du théâtre" by DUPUY BERBERIAN. 6. Continue along rue Jean Rostand to the ramparts, past the Carnot statue and continue for 150m. 7. Cross over to the small rue d'Arc on the right which leads to the Angoulême museum. Go along it by the rue de l'évêché until the rue de Beaulieu which you take on the left to see Corto Maltesse at the corner of the rue du Petit Saint Cybard then "Réalité, sortie de secours" by Marc-Antoine MATHIEU. Turn left into rue du Minage, which leads to the square of Saint Pierre cathedral. Turn right onto the southern rampart and walk along it, admiring the view from the balcony of Angoulême towards the southern entrance. At the foot of the ramparts is the Green Garden. 8. At Place Turenne, turn right into Rue Bouillaud. Cross the Place du Minage to take Rue Froide, then Rue du Soleil to the left and Rue Taillefer immediately to the right. Turn left into rue Saint André before the courthouse to see "Mémoires du XXème ciel" by YSLAIRE in the square. 9. Continue along rue Sainte Marie, rue de Genève on the left. Cross the Place du Palet to reach the rue Saint Étienne, turn right and go to the viewpoint on the Charente before joining the boulevard Pasteur where "Titeuf" by ZEP and "La fille des remparts" by Max CABANES are located. Go down towards the station via rue d'Aguesseau where "Sales mioches" by BERLION and CORBEYRAN are hidden, then onto boulevard Gambetta where "Lucky Luke, the Daltons and Jolly Jumper" by MORRIS is at No. 58 and "Un samedi à Malakoff" by Franck MARGERIN at No. 153.
