Hidden behind Saint-Pierre cathedral, the cloister is a small haven of peace in the heart of Saintes. Long closed to the public, the cloister is now open again. Built in the colonial style in the 13th century, it has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1937. It is enhanced by the galleries that surround it on two sides. In addition to its hiding place, the fountain and planters of aromatic plants, ancient vegetables and medicinal plants are a reminder that the cloister was an important part of ecclesiastical life. The cloister regularly hosts exhibitions.
