Eglise Saint Gérald

Français

Owned by the Priory of Mauzé around the year 1000, Saint Gérald's Church only retains a few capitals and a mural painting in the north transept (privately owned) from its original appearance. Its semi-circular apse has also disappeared. The parish church is now a rectangle with a straight chevet and no aisles. The nave and bell tower are in the Romanesque style. The portal with two scrolls has no ornamentation. It is topped by a cornice with bare modillions. The choir appears to have been rebuilt in the 16th century. All that remains from the earlier period are the cross-beams decorated with figurines and the three-formed chevet window topped by a composition of lobes. The bell tower is square and 25 metres high. It houses a listed bronze bell from the end of the 18th century, weighing about 140 kilos.
