Eglise Saint Pierre

The parish church of Angliers belongs to the medieval period and was built in the 12th century. It used to depend on the Abbey of Nieul sur l'Autise. With its elongated plan, the building consists of a single nave with a choir and three bays (one of which is for the choir). The entrance portal is in a very late Romanesque style. It is composed of a plain arch, falling on engaged columns, whose capitals are sculpted (heart-shaped interlacing or ibexes sprouting from foliage). The arcaded bell tower is later. The choir was certainly rebuilt in the 15th century. A stained glass window from 1883 decorates the gothic window in the chevet. The latter is surmounted by the coat of arms of the Langlois family, lords of Angliers in the 16th century. The main interest of the church of Saint Pierre is the baptismal font of 1651 and its stoup, both decorated with cherubs' heads.
