Description

The Saint-Jean underground church was dug into the rock probably at the beginning of the twelth century, following a Roman layout. It is unique in Europe, being of exceptionnal proportions, 20 meters high and having a reliquary, a cross-shaped pit for relics, an impressive gallery at 18 meters above floor level and a necropolis containing about one hundred and sixty-nine sarcophagi makes it well worth a visit. Partner "Passport Discoveries": Reduced price on the period from July 1 to August 31 on presentation of the guide (adults: 5 euros). Last admission 30 minutes before closing. The church is closed to the public on December 25 and January 1.
