La Galaxie des Pierres Levées

In the centre, an agora surrounded by five Mother Stones symbolising the five continents of planet Earth, on which the alphabets of each continent are engraved. Conceived in 2005 by the association "les Lapidiales", the idea behind "La Galaxie des pierres levées" is to erect a field of megaliths. The aim of this artistic project is to become an attractive and key meeting place for different cultures from around the world, and to build a bridge between the tradition of extracting and working stone from Roman antiquity to contemporary sculpture. This formidable artistic adventure and ambitious project connects the 3 sites: - "La Pierre de Crazannes", a stone once quarried by man, and over time, a space reclaimed by nature. - The Lapidiales site, a stone sublimated by man through art. - La Galaxie des pierres levées, (raised) stone as a place of cultural exchange and a link between past, present and future. These 3 sites have come together to form "Les Sentiers de la Pierre", inviting visitors to wander from site to site in an unusual universe marked by the history of stone and its sculptors! All around the Mother Stones, 360 megaliths are arranged in the shape of a galactic spiral according to the Golden Ratio. Every year, from spring to the end of summer, sculptors take up residency at the Lapidiales site. They sculpt for a month and a half or two in the presence of visitors. Year after year, the megaliths created take the place of the waiting blocks within the monumental work and are installed in the branch of the Galaxy corresponding to the continent of the guest culture. It's an event that's set to last for decades!
