Unique site in Europe, the Rochefort lagoon station, in addition to being an economical and ecological treatment area for Rochefort’s wastewater, is also a welcome place for thousands of waterbirds: ducks, waders, grebes, passerines,... The lagoon station is the unique site in Europe which is ideally located on the banks of the Charente. Here, wastewater is treated by the principle of self-purification. Thanks to the action of sun, wind and microorganisms allows a natural purification.This place is also a paradise for many birds species such as ducks, coots, small waders, which are attracted by the abundance of plankton that grows in the lagoons and the pools specially developed by the LPB. The site is managed both by the Community of Agglomeration of Rochefort Océan (CARO) and the League for the Protection of Birds (LPB)
