Beef and asparagus - St-Just-Luzac Bénédicte shares her passion for her job How did you become a farmer? I was a nurse's aide for eleven years but I chose to change my career path after the Covid period and because of the increasingly difficult working conditions. At the same time, I was already helping my partner who took over the family farm with a Charolais cow farm and 124 hectares of cereals. I passed my Brevet professionnel (vocational diploma) in charge of an agricultural enterprise in 2021 to have some legitimacy and to grow asparagus. Why did you choose asparagus? We already had two rows for our own consumption, so I had mastered this crop which also has the advantage of being out of step with the rest. I planted 3,000 clumps of white asparagus on a sandy part of our land. My installation also allows me to bring an additional income to the farm. How do you work? We work with sustainable agriculture by using tarpaulins to avoid weeding the asparagus rows. Next year, we are going to set up a sales outlet at the farm to offer beef parcels and asparagus.
