As a privileged witness to the meeting of the river and the ocean, our territory has a front row seat for the permanent spectacle offered by the largest estuary in Europe. Under its influence, the rural and maritime worlds are in harmony. The rolling hillsides of the Gironde, covered with vines and cereals, end on the white cliffs that dominate the river. Further upstream, natural marshes extend, a refuge for wildlife. As you drive along the coast from Royan, you will be treated to an architectural stroll: "Belle Epoque" villas with geometric and pure lines from the 1950s. Then you will cross the forest of Suzac, link between the maritime domain and the river domain, and, plunge into the heart of a Mediterranean vegetation where arbutus trees and cork oaks rub shoulders with maritime pines and holm oaks. You will discover superb panoramas over the estuary and the land where the famous "pineau and cognac" are born, but also the local Charentais wines which are beginning to make a name for themselves.
