In the past, the Boixe forest was part of a long strip of woodland stretching over 200 km from La Rochelle to the Périgord. This strip of forest, coveted by farmers from time immemorial, has been cleared and intensively farmed. In 1976, the municipalities affected formed a syndicate to acquire 130 hectares of forest and safeguard it. Since then, it has been managed by the ONF. Start on the D116 (follow the signs) - Welcome sign at the car park. Discover the following along the way: The observation post, the botanical trail, the dolmen known as the "Stone of Sacrifice" and, off the trail but just a few metres away, the Boixe tumulus, an exceptional monument.
