Starting from the rue de la Citadelle in Arces-sur-Gironde, this mostly tarmac route is not particularly difficult. From Arces to Barzan via Talmont, you have a date with history. On a rocky promontory overlooking the Gironde estuary, Talmont has kept its original bastide layout. A short trip to Arces-sur-Gironde will allow you to enjoy magnificent views over the Gironde and the Saintonge countryside. Dominating the village, the magnificent church of Sainte-Radegonde is still fortified with ramparts. Don't forget to take advantage of this particular environment between the vineyards and the estuary with its "carrelets" (small fishing nets) at the place called "le Caillaud". You will cross Barzan and the Gallo-Roman site of Fâ, an ancient port city with the hill of La Garde to welcome you.
